Roger Williams and the Sleepy Cooks
After 11 years as a Food Safety Educator with Whole Foods Market, I am out on my own teaching and consulting.
How well I remember my first ServSafe exam! The chapter on the microbiological world made me nauseous, both from the descriptions of illness and my own anxiety about preparing (after many years away from formal schooling) to take a 90 question exam. I actually cut that chapter out of my paperback textbook and took it to the beach, hoping that the ocean’s movement would soothe me as I studied and help the information flow into my brain. I still had sand in my teeth and sunburn when exam time came, but I passed!
People who need ServSafe training are either moving fast or fast asleep. This has informed my teaching style and steered me away from the deadly Power Point experience of old. So, borrowing the words of Roger Williams, join us for RI’s newest “lively experiment,” learning through playing.
